Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
