White House Announces Federal Worker Layoffs as Shutdown Nears Third Week
The White House confirmed the initiation of federal worker layoffs on Friday, making good on prior threats linked to the continuing US government shutdown, which is now poised to stretch into its third consecutive week.

Russell Vought posted on social media that “RIFs have begun,” indicating the official process for terminating staff.
While Vought did not specify which departments were affected, a treasury spokesperson stated that layoff warnings had been issued within that department. Furthermore, a Department of Homeland Security representative indicated that staff reductions would also occur at the CISA. Moreover, a union for federal workers announced that members at the Education Department would be affected by the reduction in force.
